The State of Children's Emotional Well-being: Voices from a survey on the Thai-Myanmar border

Displaced children and young people along the Thai-Myanmar border have been affected by multiple crises in the last decade. COVID-19, the 2021 Myanmar military coup, and the subsequent civil war in Myanmar have all brought significant challenges to local communities. Research projects and informal reports from teachers and community members have shown that these crises are affecting the mental health and emotional well-being of children and young people from Myanmar in Thailand, which in turn can affect their physical health, relationships, and ability to study.

Effective population-level promotion of positive parenting and violence prevention in high-adversity settings

"Being Family" is a film-based intervention developed with migrant communities from Myanmar, featuring evidence-based parenting skills from the WHO-UNICEF Parenting for Lifelong Health programs. Our recent study, involving 2,249 caregivers on the Thailand-Myanmar border, shows that "Being Family" significantly boosts positive and playful parenting, prevents physical violence against children, and encourages caregiver involvement in early learning activities. It also enhances parenting knowledge, family functioning, social support, and reduces the belief in harsh punishment.

Bridges: Participatory Action Research on the Future of Migrant Education in Thailand 

Migrant children’s educational prospects in Thailand have brightened greatly since 2015, when Save the Children and World Education conducted the last comprehensive research project on migrant education. Government-recognized education has now become accessible for many migrant children and many legal obstacles that had prevented migrant children from enrolment in Thai schools, have now been eliminated.

ในปี 2019 โครงการ Rays of Youth จะทำการฉลองครบรอบสิบปี โดยนับตั้งแต่เริ่มโครงการนี้ได้มีเยาวชนได้รับการฝึกฝนและจบการศึกษาจากโครงการผู้นำมากกว่า 100 คน ร่วมกันทำกิจกรรมสร้างความตระหนักอีกทั้งได้เข้าถึงสมาชิกชุมชนมากกว่า 49,000 คน
